Up for sale here is this update kit for the Sony TA-4650 amplifier. There are several updates that need to be applied to the TA-4650, and this kit includes the parts for all of them, plus it includes detailed instructions to walk you through everything. The TA-4650 and other similar Sony VFET amplifiers use VD1221 diodes that age poorly and need replacing, and there are a few other updates to be performed as well. This kit is designed to cover the service bulletin updates for the TA-4650 driver board, plus one optional upgrade for the power supply board, and two transistors for the volume control board. It is a useful update for any TA-4650 amp, but this is very unlikely to fix non-working amplifiers. It is not a full rebuild kit. The TA-4650 and other similar Sony amplifiers uses VFETs, which are special transistors that are no longer made and are very hard to find. I do not have replacements for these, and I do not know where to get them. This kit includes: 3 1N4148 pairs (to replace the three VD1221 "death diodes")4 3.3k ohm 1/4W resistors (to replace R313, R314, R363, and R364 on the driver board)3 1N4004 diodes (two to replace D403 on the power supply board, one to replace D410 for looks) 2 KSA992 transistors (to replace two 2SA705 transistors on the volume control board that can cause trouble) These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts, the same parts I use when I rebuild vintage gear. I updated a TA-4650 recently, which inspired me to create this kit. I will include very clearly-written instructions to walk you through the entire process. However, this is a fairly complicated rebuild, and you should know what you're doing and have a decent soldering iron and a dim-bulb tester. You will also need heat-sink compound and a drill with a 1mm or 0.8mm drill bit, for the D403 replacement, which involves drilling a small hole in the power supply board. The last two pictures show how that diode replacement works. Please see my pictures for details. US shipping and handling is $5, and international is $18, no matter what quantity you buy. All my small parts are set up for combined shipping, so just use the "add to cart" feature and then check out all at once, and it will combine shipping. If you have any questions, please ask. Looking for more parts? I have power switches, feet, pushbuttons, top case screws, bottom screws, faceplate screws, white LED fuse lamps, blue LED fuse lamps, 6.3v bi-pin bulbs, 8v bi-pin bulbs, 12v bi-pin bulbs, wired 8v 60ma bulbs, new power cords, new main capacitors for the Marantz 1060/2230, wired Pioneer speaker plug replacements, new 630v yellow film capacitors at 13 different values, a large variety of transistors for vintage stereo repair, and more. Just use "add to cart" on everything you want and then check out for combined shipping.
