This headshell is identical to our Empire 98 compatible headshell in terms of exterior geometry, but with a different diameter neck. This unique neck diameter – it will not fit an Emipre 98 tonearm – will fit certain Rek-O-Kut tonearms such as the S-120 and S-160! Our beautiful vintage inspired headshell is made of black ABS, and complements your vintage table. We considered metal as opposed to ABS, but metal is prohibitively expensive, and it would be nearly impossible to match the patina or chrome as seen on many vintage tonearms. Also unique to the Best Audio Rek-O-Kut headshell is a worldwide first: the removable cart sled. You are no longer limited to certain cartridges. And of course overhang adjustment is now an option. Do you like to roll cartridges? Buy an extra sled, and it’s an easy method of swapping.Vintage Rek-O-Kut owners may recall when the S-120 arm was introduced, Rek-O-Kut acknowledged that the overhang was fixed, and was meant to accommodate the “majority of popular cartridges”. Because some cartridge manufacturers had not standardized the distance from the mounting holes in the cartridge to the stylus, certain cartridges were not an option to the listener. To address this issue, Rek-O-Kut marketed a “mounting kit” with slotted mounting holes and which permitted the cartridge to be moved forward or backward for the correct overhang. Our mounting kit is not a replacement for the OEM mounting kit, ours is a new design. Our sled affixes to the headshell via brass inserts fore and aft. See the photos.
